The search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie has reached a high-stakes turning point as her family announced a massive $1 million private reward for information leading to her recovery.

The announcement, made Tuesday by Guthrie’s daughter, Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, comes after more than three weeks of silence and “agony” following the elderly woman’s disappearance from her Arizona home.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen entering her residence in Tucson on the evening of January 31. By the following morning, she was gone. Investigators with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI believe she was abducted against her will, a theory supported by several ransom notes that have surfaced during the three-week investigation.

The newly announced million-dollar sum dwarfs the FBI’s existing $100,000 reward, reflecting the family’s urgent desire to break the case open.

Savannah Guthrie shared the news through an emotional social media post, marking Day 24 of the disappearance. She described the period since her mother was taken from her bed in the “dark of night” as a constant struggle. While acknowledging the grim possibility that her mother may no longer be alive, Guthrie emphasized that the family needs closure and is still holding out hope for a miracle.

Law enforcement has been working through a slim collection of physical evidence. Last week, authorities went public with surveillance footage showing a masked individual tampering with a camera at the front door of the Guthrie home.

The suspect is described as a man of average build, standing roughly 5 feet, 10 inches tall. Outside of the video, the most significant find has been a single black glove discovered about a mile and a half from the house. While DNA was recovered from the item, it failed to produce a match in CODIS, the national database for criminal offenders.

As the investigation continues, the FBI’s Phoenix office has issued a stern reminder to the public regarding the official tip line. Officials stated that while they understand the public’s concern, the 1-800-CALL-FBI line must remain clear for “actionable investigative leads” rather than personal theories or messages of sympathy for the Guthrie family.

For now, the focus remains on the $1.1 million total reward and the hope that the life-changing sum of money will finally prompt someone with direct knowledge of the kidnapping to come forward.
