U.S. State Department escalates efforts to locate Sa’ad bin Atef al-Awlaki, head of al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula.
The U.S. Department of State’s Rewards for Justice (RFJ) program today announced a significant increase in its reward offer for information leading to the identification or location of Sa’ad bin Atef al-Awlaki, the leader of al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
The new reward now stands at up to $10 million, a substantial increase from the previous offer of $6 million.
Al-Awlaki assumed leadership of AQAP in 2024 and has since publicly incited attacks against the United States and its allies. His tenure as the group’s leader, combined with his prior role as an AQAP emir in Yemen’s Shabwah province, has seen him orchestrate attacks against U.S. interests and engage in the kidnapping of American citizens in Yemen.

In addition to the heightened reward for al-Awlaki, RFJ continues to offer rewards for other key figures within AQAP’s leadership.
A reward of up to $5 million is available for information on Ibrahim al-Banna, and up to $4 million is offered for information leading to the identification or location of Ibrahim Ahmed Mahmoud al-Qosi. Both al-Banna and al-Qosi are integral members of the leadership team supporting the AQAP leader.
The Rewards for Justice program urges anyone with information regarding al-Awlaki, al-Banna, or al-Qosi to come forward. Information can be shared confidentially via Signal, Telegram, or WhatsApp at +1 202-702-7843, or through their
