10-Year-Old Challenger Student In Spring Hill Detained With Pellet Gun, Knife In Her Backpack

SPRING HILL, Fla. - Deputies are currently investigating an incident at Challenger K-8, located in Spring Hill, involving allegations of a student having a firearm on campus.

SPRING HILL, Fla. – Deputies are currently investigating an incident at Challenger K-8, located in Spring Hill, involving allegations of a student having a firearm on campus.

Deputies say a concerned student notified the school resource deputy and the principal that another student possibly brought a firearm to school. 

The deputy and the principal immediately contacted the student in question, a 10-year-old female, and checked her backpack.

A search of the student’s backpack revealed a pellet gun and a pocket knife, which were both confiscated.  The student was detained by the School Resource Deputy.

The student did not make any threats to other students and/or to staff members, nor did she display the pellet gun or pocket knife.

Deputies say the investigation confirmed that no threats were made to students, teachers, or staff.

The student has been placed into protective custody.
