A 41-year-old Opa-locka man is in custody following an early-morning high-speed pursuit along U.S. 1 in the Florida Keys on Sunday.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Harold Junius Walker after he drove a Dodge pickup truck at speeds topping 100 mph and fled a traffic stop. No injuries were reported.
The incident began around 3:00 a.m. when deputies pulled Walker over near Mile Marker 29 for speeding. Shortly after stopping, Walker drove off at a high rate of speed.
Deputies deployed tire spikes near the Sheriff’s Office substation on Cudjoe Key to slow the truck down. Despite hitting the spikes, Walker kept driving down the highway until the vehicle finally stopped near Mile Marker 19.
Walker refused repeated commands to step out of the vehicle. Deputies then forcibly pulled him from the truck while he continued to ignore orders and resist officers throughout the encounter.
Walker was taken to jail and charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, driving without a valid license, and dangerous or excessive speeding. He was also issued multiple traffic citations.
