100 MPH Terror: Indian National Indicted In High-Speed Crash That Killed Pregnant Ohio Teen

A high-speed police pursuit in Ohio ended in tragedy last month, leading to a formal indictment this week against Tarsem Singh, an Indian national who authorities say was in the country illegally.

Singh now faces a litany of serious charges, including involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, and vehicular homicide, following a February 16 head-on collision that claimed the lives of a 17-year-old girl and her unborn child.

The incident began when Singh allegedly fled from local officers, reaching speeds of 100 mph during a five-mile chase. The pursuit came to a violent end when Singh’s vehicle slammed into a Jeep Cherokee. The impact was so severe that his teenage passenger, who was pregnant at the time, was ejected from the car. Emergency responders later pronounced her dead.

While Singh was hospitalized for his injuries and subsequently arrested, the driver of the Jeep survived the crash and was reported to be conscious and alert following the impact.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security confirmed today that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has officially lodged an arrest detainer for Singh.

Records show that Singh originally entered the United States illegally through the California border in February 2017. Although he was apprehended at that time, a judge later ordered his release on bond.

“This is yet another tragic reminder of why illegal aliens should not be driving cars on America’s roads,” said Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis in a statement released by the department. “A 17-year-old woman and her unborn child are now dead as a result of this illegal alien’s reckless actions. We have lodged an arrest detainer with Ohio authorities to ensure this illegal alien is never released and allowed back behind the wheel to put more innocent lives at risk.”

Singh is currently being held in an Ohio facility on a $1 million bond as the legal proceedings move forward. The detainer ensures that should he post bail or be released from local custody, he will be turned over to federal authorities for deportation proceedings.
