The off-campus threat was deemed not an immediate danger
NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. – An 11-year-old student from Gulf Middle School was arrested by Pasco Sheriff’s Office (PSO) deputies for making written threats to kill, the agency announced today. The arrest follows an investigation into a threat that was made off-campus and did not pose an immediate danger to the school or its students.
According to a statement from the PSO, the threat was not made on school grounds, and authorities quickly determined there was no public safety threat to Gulf Middle School. However, due to the nature of the threat, deputies moved to apprehend the student.
The incident has prompted the Pasco Sheriff’s Office to issue a renewed warning to parents, guardians, and students about the serious repercussions of making threats, even those considered hoaxes.
“Threats of violence, even hoax threats, are taken extremely seriously,” the PSO statement read.
The agency highlighted that the consequences can be significant, including legal ramifications and potential arrest.
