POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Winter Garden man found out the hard way that Interstate 4 is not a racetrack early Saturday morning. Just after midnight on January 24, 2026, deputies put a stop to a dangerous high-speed contest near Lake Alfred.

It happened around 12:47 a.m.

A deputy with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office noticed a group of cars tearing down the eastbound lanes of the highway. According to the report, the vehicles appeared to be racing each other near Mile Marker 54.

A deputy managed to catch up to one of the cars involved, a blue 2021 Volkswagen GTI. The radar showed the car was traveling at 126 mph. The speed limit in that zone is just 70 mph.

The deputy pulled the car over and identified the driver as 21-year-old Christopher Dimitrov. The traffic stop quickly turned into a trip to jail.

Dimitrov was arrested and taken to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. He now faces multiple charges, including Street Racing, Reckless Driving, and Dangerous Excessive Speeding.
