15-Year-Old Palmetto Teen Arrested After Crashing Into A Business And Stealing Firearms

SARASOTA, Fla. – Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department are investigating an armed burglary that happened at a business in the 300 block of Orange Avenue, Sarasota, just before 7:30 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2021.

Detectives believe, Tocory Williams, of Palmetto, age 15, backed a stolen vehicle into a sidewall of the business to gain access inside. Once inside, Williams stole several firearms and left the area in the vehicle.

Williams was caught by Sarasota Police officers a short time later near the intersection of 17th Street and Orange Avenue after crashing into a tree. The vehicle Williams was driving was reported stolen out of Manatee County around 6 a.m. today, Friday.

Williams was arrested without incident and was taken to the Sarasota County Jail. He is facing charges of:

  • Armed Burglary,
  • Burglary by using a Motor Vehicle,
  • Burglary Causing Damage to a Structure in Excess of $1,000,
  • Fleeing to Elude,
  • Driving without a License,
  • Three (3) counts of Theft of a Firearm,
  • Criminal Mischief.

Additional charges are possible.  Per F.S.S. 985.04 (2) (a) 1., information about juveniles facing felony charges is public record. 

Williams was arrested in Manatee County on January 4, 2021, for Armed Burglary, 15 counts of Theft of a Firearm, Grand Theft and Criminal Mischief.
