BRANDON, Fla. – A 17-year-old is in custody following a shooting at a Brandon apartment complex that left an innocent bystander wounded, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the 1200 block of Landon Preserve Circle around 9:03 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, following reports of gunfire in public. When units arrived at the complex, they found one person suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. Emergency personnel took the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators identified the suspect as Key’rion Sincere Austin, 17. Detectives determined that Austin fired multiple rounds toward a group of people gathered in the area. The victim, who authorities said had no connection to either group, was struck by stray gunfire.
Deputies located and arrested Austin the following day, August 13.
“Age doesn’t matter when you fire a gun into a group of people. What matters is that someone innocent got hurt,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “This teenager made a choice that could have cost someone their life. Our detectives worked diligently to identify the suspect and get him off our streets. We remain committed to holding juvenile offenders accountable, just as we would anyone else who endangers this community.”
Austin faces several charges, including attempted second-degree murder with a firearm involving great bodily harm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony, improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon or firearm, discharging a firearm on residential property or in public, and minor in possession of a firearm.
Authorities stated that the investigation remains active.
