Breaking News From The Free Press Tampa

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A 21-year-old Brandon man was found dead in Tampa Bay and an investigation into how he ended up there is underway.

On Monday, at 4:24 PM, Florida Highway Patrol Troopers responded to the Howard Frankland Bridge following reports of a body located by local law enforcement marine units and the USCG in Tampa Bay near the span.

Following the identification of the remains located in the Bay, Troopers were able to link the 21-year-old man to a vehicle located along the emergency shoulder in the southbound lanes of I-275 near Milepost 35.

The 2003 Lexus sedan was involved in a collision in which the vehicle struck the bridge barrier wall.

The case remains under investigation. It is unclear how the man entered the water, but we will update this story as more details are released.
