A man whose criminal history dates back to his early teens will spend the next quarter-century behind bars. Anthony Mojica, 21, appeared before the Honorable Judge Shannon McFee on March 11, 2026, where he entered a plea of No Contest to a litany of charges.
The court handed down a 25-year prison sentence, followed by five years of probation. Notably, McFee ruled that Mojica will receive no credit for time already served in jail.
The 25-year term represents the mandatory minimum for Trafficking in Fentanyl. Mojica’s most recent major run-in occurred in April 2025, when he was arrested following a shooting in a local Walmart parking lot.
During that incident, deputies recovered 39 grams of fentanyl and 34 grams of cocaine. Under Florida law, only four grams of fentanyl are required to trigger a trafficking charge.
Mojica has been a constant fixture in the local legal system since 2018, when he had his first interaction with law enforcement at age 13.

His record with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and the Punta Gorda Police Department includes a 2019 felony arrest involving drugs and resisting an officer, followed by a 2020 arrest for firing a gun at an occupied RV.
Between 2020 and 2022, Mojica faced a rotating door of charges, including 10 counts of burglary and larceny, multiple probation violations, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for shooting at another person from a vehicle. He also has a history of absconding from mandated residential facilities and failing to appear for court dates.
Sheriff Bill Prummell signaled that the sentence marks the end of a long-standing threat to public safety.
“When I say that we are not playing games with these people who think they can get away with anything and endanger our community with their reckless behaviors, I mean that,” Prummell said. “This young man has been a problem for far too long, with many opportunities to turn his life around, and now the consequences have caught up to him. I thank my deputies and detectives for all of their hard work to take this constant nuisance and dangerous young man off the streets. Let this be a clear message to any others who are living this kind of life – we don’t mess around. Your time is coming, too.”
