Argentinian prosecutors have filed charges against five people in connection with the death of One Direction singer Liam Payne, who died in October after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.
Payne, 31, was reportedly incapacitated by “the consumption of various substances” and unable to maintain his balance in the lobby of the Casa Sur Palermo Hotel prior to his fatal fall on October 16th.
Prosecutors allege that Payne’s companion, the hotel manager, and the head of reception at the hotel were negligent in their duty of care to the singer, contributing to his death. They have been charged with “negligent homicide.”

According to the prosecution’s statement, the hotel manager witnessed Payne’s intoxicated state but “allowed, at least by omission, for Payne to be taken to his room moments before his death.” The room had a balcony, which, given Payne’s condition, posed a significant risk.
The reception manager also observed Payne’s vulnerability but failed to ensure his safety. Prosecutors argue that Payne should have been kept in a safe area, in the company of others, until he could receive medical attention.
Payne’s companion, identified as RLN, is also facing charges for allegedly failing to provide adequate care and assistance to the singer.

Additionally, two hotel employees, a waiter and another worker, have been charged with supplying cocaine to Payne in exchange for money.
The judge overseeing the case has approved the charges and ordered the detention of the two individuals accused of supplying drugs. They face potential sentences of up to 15 years in prison.
Payne’s death has shocked fans worldwide and sparked a debate about the responsibility of those around him to ensure his safety.
