5 Killed Including 2 Children From Zephyrhills In Crash Overnight On SR-39 North Of Plant City

Five people have died including an infant and a 12-year-old girl, both from Zephyrhills, in a crash that happened on SR-39 around 9:22 pm on Sunday

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Five people have died including an infant and a 12-year-old girl, both from Zephyrhills, in a crash that happened on SR-39 around 9:22 pm on Sunday

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a 2015 Ford Explorer, was traveling northbound on SR-39, north of Bruton Road when troopers say a Nissan Frontier, that was traveling southbound crossed the centerline of the highway for an unknown reason, and the vehicles collided nearly head-on. 

Troopers say the SUV rotated to a stop along the west shoulder of SR-39, while the pickup truck came to a stop in the southbound lane of SR-39 with no lights illuminating the vehicle. 

Troopers say a tractor-trailer, unable to see the pickup truck, collided with the passenger side truck, killing the driver of the pickup truck, a 53-year-old Valrico man.

The driver of the SUV, a 20-year-old Zephyrhills woman, died at the scene of the crash. Sadly investigators say two passengers in the SUV, a 12-year-old girl, and a 56-year-old woman, both from Zephyrhills, died at the scene of the crash as well.

Troopers say an infant passenger in the SUV, from Zephryhills, was rushed to the hospital, but later died from injuries suffered in the crash.
