54-Year-Old Largo Man Killed In Friday Crash At US-19 And Welch Causeway

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A 54-year-old Largo man was killed in a crash that happened Friday morning in St. Pete.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the Largo man was traveling southbound on US-19 in a pickup truck, in the outside lane along the exit ramp overpass leading to Welch Causeway.

Troopers say the man suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle which departed the roadway, entered the shoulder, and collided with a guardrail, curb, and traffic sign.

The pickup truck was redirected and traveled back across the Welch Causeway and entered the outside shoulder where it collided with a fence and light pole before coming to a stop.

Both occupants, the driver and passenger, a 55-year-old Largo man were transported to an area hospital where the driver later died.
