54-Year-Old St. Pete Man Dies After Being Struck By Car Overnight

ST. PETERSBURG, FL. – A 54-year-old St. Pete has died from injuries sustained in a pedestrian crash overnight in St. Petersburg.

According to St. Pete Police, around 10:17 p.m. on Wednesday, a Volkswagon Passat was traveling westbound on 18th Ave. S. approaching 19th St. S.

A pedestrian, identified as Jeffrey Francis Maurio, 54, of St. Petersburg, was crossing 18th Ave. S.  from the north side of the street.

Police say there was heavy rain at the time when the Passat struck Maurio.

Maurio was transported to the hospital where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating with officers, and police say the driver showed no signs of impairment.

18th Avenue South was closed for several hours during the investigation but has since reopened.
