56-Year-Old Man Killed In Seminole Motorcycle Crash Saturday, Passenger In Critical Condition

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the intersection of Seminole Boulevard and 54th Avenue North to a motorcycle vs vehicle crash.

The rider of the motorcycle, 56-year-old Stephen Smith, was transported to a local hospital where he died.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2021, deputies responded to Seminole Boulevard and 54th Avenue North to a call of a motorcycle versus vehicle crash.

According to investigators, 46-year-old Kristen Johnson was traveling southbound on Seminole Boulevard and was preparing to make a left turn to travel eastbound on 54th Avenue North with her passenger, 14-year-old Arianna Hansen. Smith and his passenger, 54-year-old Robyn Cox, were traveling northbound on Seminole Boulevard on a Harley Davidson Street Glide.

Deputies say Smith attempted to beat the red light when Johnson made her left turn. The motorcycle collided with the SUV in the intersection and Smith and Cox were ejected. Johnson and Hansen remained in the vehicle and sustained minor injuries.

Smith was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased and Cox was transported to a local hospital where she remains in critical but stable condition.

Deputies say impairment does not appear to be a factor and next of kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
