A disturbance in Clay County on Monday resulted in an 8-year-old girl stabbing her grandmother to protect her mother from a violent attack, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident unfolded around 3 p.m. on Monday when deputies responded to a disturbance call in the 600 block of Reese Avenue in the Oakleaf area. The caller, later identified as the victim, was heard yelling for an individual to leave her home, officials said.
Investigators determined that the victim’s estranged biological mother, Serpil Adams, 62, entered her daughter’s home uninvited through an unlocked door. Adams then allegedly attacked the victim with a serrated knife.
During the struggle, the victim’s 8-year-old daughter intervened to protect her mother. The child grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Adams in the upper arm, stopping the assault.
Following the incident, Adams fled the scene in her vehicle and returned to a friend’s residence in Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office located Adams inside the home and took her into custody.
Authorities confirmed that neither the victim nor her children were injured during the terrifying ordeal.
Serpil Adams has been charged with attempted second-degree murder.
