A 57-year-old pharmacist remains jailed on a $2.5 million bond after authorities say he called emergency dispatchers to report he had shot and killed his wife.
Douglas “Kirk” Rawl was arrested on July 2 by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and charged with criminal homicide in connection with the death of 52-year-old Allison “Che Che” Rawl. According to police reports, Douglas Rawl placed a 911 call on July 1.
When the dispatcher questioned him about the motive behind the shooting, Rawl reportedly stated, “I genuinely thought that she was the devil, and I thought that I was the son of God, or even Jesus.” When asked by the dispatcher if his wife was breathing, Rawl allegedly responded, “No, she is dead as fried chicken.”
Upon arriving at the scene, responding deputies observed Rawl removing his clothing outside the home. Investigators state that he refused to comply with law enforcement commands, leading deputies to deploy a taser to take him into custody.
Rawl was subsequently treated for minor forehead injuries sustained during the arrest. Inside the residence, deputies found Allison Rawl suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
During post-arrest interviews, Rawl told investigators that the incident began as an argument after his wife woke him up while he was sleeping on the couch. According to investigative reports, Rawl admitted to pinning his wife down and attempting to pull off her head.
When that failed, he allegedly shot her multiple times in the chest. Rawl further told detectives that he felt uncertain if the events were actually happening, prompting him to try to eat a piece of his wife’s body to confirm his belief that she was the devil.
In the wake of the arrest, neighbors have spoken out regarding the couple’s relationship. Anna Baldwin, who lived near the Rawls, stated that she spoke to Allison Rawl shortly before the incident and suspected ongoing domestic abuse inside the home.
“We knew something strange was going on in the house,” Baldwin said. “The wife was very open with my mom about what was going on; she felt like she had someone to lean on in my mom, so she talked to her a lot about what was going on. She would never tell me or my siblings the details. It was some pretty dark stuff pertaining to their personal life and their marriage.”
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office confirms that the investigation into the homicide is still active.
