Global reaction is intensifying following U.S. military strikes in Venezuela and President Trump’s announcement of Nicolás Maduro’s capture, with responses ranging from sharp condemnation to calls for caution.

Russia and Iran were among the first to denounce the operation. Tehran described the strikes as a “flagrant violation” of Venezuela’s sovereignty, according to AFP.

Moscow issued a similar rebuke, with the Russian Foreign Ministry labeling the move an “act of armed aggression” based on “unfounded” pretexts. Russian officials are urging immediate dialogue to prevent escalation and have joined calls for an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting.

Meanwhile, the European Union adopted a more measured tone. Top EU diplomat Kaja Kallas confirmed Saturday that she had spoken with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the EU’s ambassador in Caracas.

While noting the bloc has “repeatedly stated that Mr. Maduro lacks legitimacy,” Kallas emphasized that “under all circumstances, the principles of international law and the UN Charter must be respected.”

“We call for restraint,” Kallas wrote on social media, adding that the safety of EU citizens remains their top priority as they closely monitor the situation.
