AdventHealth Wesley Chapel Maintains “A” In Patient Safety

TAMPA, Fla. – AdventHealth Wesley Chapel has once again maintained safety as the top priority, even during a pandemic, by receiving the highest marks possible for patient safety and quality with a Leapfrog grade “A” from the prestigious Leapfrog Group.

The safety grade is awarded based on a hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections, and other harms to patients in their care.

“Being recognized as the best hospital for patient safety and high-quality care is a remarkable accomplishment,” said Erik Wangsness CEO, AdventHealth Wesley Chapel. “This prestigious accolade is a testament to the hard work and dedication our team members provide to patients each and every day.”

AdventHealth Wesley Chapel committed to maintaining the safest, highest quality care to all patients. Some of the safety measures the hospital instituted to maintain Leapfrog grade “A” over the years include:

  • Hiring additional infection preventionists to continue to reduce risk of infection.
  • Implementing additional sanitation technology such as foot sanitizing stations and state-of-the-art bacteria removing robots and lights in operating rooms to ensure the safest settings for care.

“Our hospital team has set the standard for what it means to provide the best in patient safety,” said Dawn Hicks-Waldron Chief Nursing Officer for AdventHealth Wesley Chapel. “Even in the midst of a pandemic, we will continue to raise the bar and elevate our commitment to provide a safe environment at every level of care.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,700 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
