U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has escalated a legal and political battle with prominent California Democrats, announcing Thursday that she has ordered former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to preserve all her emails and records related to her alleged directive to arrest federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.

“You cannot disclose the identity of a federal agent where they live, anything that can harm them,” Bondi declared, adding that Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker is also “same ball game with him.”

The action comes after the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) sent a letter on Thursday to key California officials, including Nancy Pelosi, Governor Gavin Newsom, Attorney General Rob Bonta, and San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.

The letter demanded they immediately halt any threats or actions to arrest or obstruct federal immigration agents and instructed them to preserve all related records.

Bondi confirmed the preservation order, stating, “Pelosi got a letter today from Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. So did Brooke Jenkins… we told them preserve your emails, preserve everything you have on this topic.”

The Attorney General directly threatened prosecution: “If you are telling people to arrest our ICE officers, you are impeding an investigation, and we will charge them if they are violating the law. We will protect our federal agents.”

DOJ Warns of “Criminal Conspiracy”

The DOJ’s letter cited the Supremacy Clause and federal statutes, describing the alleged actions by California officials as an “apparent criminal conspiracy” and warning of potential federal prosecutions for attempting to impede a federal investigation.

Bondi emphasized the dedication of the federal agents, even during challenging times: “These people are out there working non-stop… during a shutdown, these people are out there working to keep Californians safe. You’ve got Pelosi out there, saying, to obstruct their investigation, you can’t do it, and we’re going to investigate her now as well as that DA.”
