Airport Chaos Builds As Florida Rep. Byron Donalds Blasts Dems Over Security Funding

The Department of Homeland Security is in another funding shutdown that Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) warns will trigger increased delays at American airports and leave national borders vulnerable.

Appearing on Fox Business Network’s “Varney & Co.,” the Florida representative placed the blame for the fiscal impasse squarely on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and congressional Democrats.

The funding lapse has already begun to impact federal operations, with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents and border patrol officers working without pay. Donalds noted that the lack of personnel is expected to force some airports to shut down specific terminals as they struggle to manage security checkpoints.

He argued that the current situation is a calculated political move rather than a standard budgetary disagreement.

“Chuck Schumer is playing politics,” Donalds stated during the interview. “The long lines at these airports, that’s because of Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats, because they are trying to use Homeland Security as a wedge issue against Donald Trump for political power.”

According to Donalds, the White House had previously signaled a willingness to negotiate on specific items, such as body cameras for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. However, he claimed that Democrats have refused to compromise, demanding their entire legislative agenda be met before restoring funding.

The Congressman linked the current standoff to previous political movements, suggesting that the failure to fund the department is a continuation of efforts to “defund” law enforcement. He characterized the strategy as an attempt to leverage national security for gain ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

“They’re now defunding the security of this nation because they want to play power politics,” Donalds said. “That leaves the homeland unsecured.”

As the shutdown continues, travel hubs across the country are bracing for increased wait times and potential service disruptions.

While Republicans and Democrats remain at odds over the specifics of the DHS budget, the immediate result is a growing strain on the nation’s transportation infrastructure and its frontline security personnel.
