An Alabama mother faced a judge last Tuesday, entering a not-guilty plea months after her 14-year-old son was found dead in a home investigators described as being in “severe condition.”
Amanda Marie Morgan, charged with felony murder and aggravated child abuse, appeared for her arraignment on March 24, 2026. The charges stem from an investigation that began on October 8, 2025, when police were called to a mobile home park on Sperry Road.
Inside the residence, officers discovered the body of Morgan’s 14-year-old son.
According to prosecutors, the boy had been left alone overnight with his 16-year-old sister. Authorities allege the child died after becoming entangled in a blanket and being strangled. His sister was taken to a local hospital immediately following the discovery to receive treatment for malnutrition.

Police reports detailed a residence with no running water or working air conditioning. Investigators stated the home was infested with insects and that feces were found on the walls and throughout the living spaces.
Following a months-long probe into the living conditions and the circumstances of the boy’s death, officials charged Morgan. Court records show that her bond has been set at $400,000 for the murder charge and $40,000 for the child abuse charge.
Under the terms of her potential release, Morgan would be placed under house arrest with electronic monitoring. The court has also issued a strict order prohibiting her from having any contact with her surviving 16-year-old daughter.
Morgan is currently scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing on April 20, 2026.
