Dershowitz suggests he could provide evidence regarding “malice” in the defamation case.
Alan Dershowitz stated on Sunday that he anticipates being called as a witness in President Donald Trump’s lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal. Dershowitz indicated he could offer testimony relevant to demonstrating “malice” on the part of the publication.
President Trump initiated a lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal and its owner, Rupert Murdoch, on Friday. The suit concerns an article published by the outlet that alleged Trump sent a provocative letter to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein celebrating his birthday.

During an appearance on “Sunday Agenda” with Lidia Curanaj, Dershowitz recounted that The Wall Street Journal also contacted him about a letter he reportedly sent. Dershowitz stated that the publication was unable to produce a copy of this alleged letter.
“I’ll probably be called as a witness in the case, because they also called me, and they said that you wrote him a letter with a mock cover of Vanity Fair,” Dershowitz told Curanaj. “And I said, ‘I may have, I don’t remember, this was 23 years ago. Just send me a copy of the letter with my signature and I’ll tell you whether it’s authentic or not,’ and they said they couldn’t do it.”
Dershowitz further commented, “And so they published the story without authenticating it with me, and that will be an important point in trying to prove malice, so I suspect I will be a witness if this case ever goes to trial.”

This lawsuit follows previous legal actions taken by President Trump against media organizations. In December 2024, Trump secured a $15 million settlement with ABC after suing the outlet for defamation over comments made by “This Week” host George Stephanopoulos. Additionally, CBS settled a $10 billion lawsuit filed by Trump concerning the editing of an October 2024 interview.
In related developments, some of President Trump’s supporters have voiced criticism regarding the handling of the Epstein files, reportedly leading to online backlash on Truth Social. President Trump addressed these criticisms in a Truth Social post on Wednesday and also defended Attorney General Pam Bondi in a statement issued on July 12.
President Trump announced on Truth Social on Thursday night that he was requesting Attorney General Bondi to seek court permission to release the grand jury transcripts from the Epstein case. Attorney General Bondi subsequently stated on X that the Department of Justice would move to unseal the documents on Friday.
