Some alumni of a private college in Philadelphia are urging others to withhold financial contributions to the school until administrators reinstate a veteran teacher fired for offending the woke.
According to the conservative group Campus Reform, Gregory Manco, an assistant math professor and baseball coach at St. Joseph’s University, was fired after roughly 17 years at the college once some students objected to anonymous tweets he apparently posted on a private Twitter account.
One tweet, from February, accompanied a new article about President Joe Biden considering a plan to study racial reparations for slavery.
“Suppose your great-great-grandfather murdered someone. The victim’s great-great-grandson knocks on your door, shows you the newspaper clipping from 1905, and demands compensation from you. Your response?” Manco reportedly tweeted. “Now get this racist reparation bullshit out of your head for good.”
In the second one, also from February, Manco questioned a poll that claimed 56 percent of respondents say America is a racist country. “So if these numbers are true about peoples’ perceptions of racism,” Manco tweeted, “what does it say about all of the race/bias ‘training’ that has been going on for some years now? Could it be that such training actually divides us and *worsens* race relations?”
Manco, Campus Reform reported, “was fired even after an investigation by the university proved no bias was shown.”
The website noted that a half-dozen upset alumni recently protested a 50th reunion luncheon for the class of 1971 in order to support Manco. They carried signs saying, “H**l no! No more dough for Saint Joe,” and “Re-hire Manco and fire the wokesters.”
The group also presented a letter to university leaders, saying they would advocate to other alumni to end contributions to St. Joseph, which could come to “hundreds of thousands” of dollars.
