Analysis: America Could Have Had Two Border Walls For What We Have Spent On Ukraine

What would you do with $110 billion? President Joe Biden, Democrats in Congress, and GOP members of the Ukraine First coalition have chosen to ship that amount to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his war against Russian invaders.

While it’s unclear how Americans benefit by sending Ukraine roughly the amount it takes to run the state of Florida, what is clear is that Biden missed an opportunity to seal up the porous U.S. border.

Breitbart News noted in a recent analysis that “all Ukraine funds could have built a complete wall along the entirety of the U.S.-Mexico border, multiple times over.”

That’s based on what former President Donald Trump spent to shield America from illegal immigration.

Trump ran in 2016, promising the build a “big, beautiful wall” along the southern border.

His initial plan called for 1,000 miles of new barrier.

According to Breitbart, the Trump administration spent about $15 billion to span about 450 miles. Just 40 miles of that were new barrier extensions; the other 410 miles of fencing means replacing or repairing barriers erected by previous presidents.

“At that cost, the more than $110 billion in taxpayer money sent to Ukraine could have built seven 450-mile border walls along the border or nearly two border walls covering the entirety of the nearly 2,000-mile border,” Breitbart reported.

Meanwhile, as an aside, the massive $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill that Democrats crammed through Congress last week contained $410 million dollars for “enhanced border security” in Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, and Oman, according to the Sinclair Broadcasting Group. Jordan is guaranteed at least $150 million or the pot, while Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin must notify Congress how the rest of the funding will be spent.

That and Breitbart’s reporting only underscore how misguided the Biden administration is about protecting America.

According to Fox News on Friday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported 233,740 “encounters” along the southwest border in November, a 1% increase from October and a new record. That was up roughly 57,000 from a year ago.

Fox noted that also did not include at least 73,000 known “gotaways,” defined as illegal immigrants who are detected or spotted but elude capture because of a manpower shortage.
