At least five Florida Republicans are on board with impeaching Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his unwillingness to police the southern border — echoing others who say he must resign.
In an interview with Fox News on Monday, the Gainesville Republican said that “all options are on the table” for Mayorkas, who has refused to acknowledge that the country faces a “humanitarian, national security and public health crisis” as millions of illegal immigrants stream across the border.
Couple that with the lies Mayorkas has told Congress and the American people, Cammack added, and “you have either been negligent in your duties or you have chosen just not to do them.”
“Neither is acceptable,” she said. “The border has to be secure.”
“He told me himself the buck stops with him,” Cammack continued. “And it’s going to.”
The congresswoman noted that the Biden administration has apprehended 98 people on terrorist watch lists at the border this year. But, she suggested, many more have likely slipped through.
Last week, Cammack ripped the Biden administration for suggesting, as White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre did, that the lawmaker’s recent trip to the border was a “political stunt.”
“We’re there to address the drug trafficking, the human smuggling, and the gruesome crimes committed there every day because of this administration’s policies,” Cammack tweeted in response. “It’s absurd.”
In addition, Sen. Rick Scott has said Mayorkas must resign.
