Apollo Beach Man Ejected And Killed After Riverview High-Speed Rear-End Collision

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A Friday evening drive turned fatal in Hillsborough County when a high-speed collision left one driver dead and another shaken but unhurt.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on April 10, 2026, at approximately 7:52 PM on a northbound stretch of US-301.

State troopers report that a 31-year-old man from Apollo Beach was traveling north in a BMW sedan when he approached a Ford Escape driven by a 40-year-old Riverview woman. As the two vehicles moved north of Shady Preserve Drive, the BMW attempted to overtake the Ford but instead slammed into its rear bumper.

The force of the impact sent the Ford Escape spinning across the pavement before it came to a rest within the northbound travel lanes.

The BMW’s trajectory was far more violent; the sedan veered into the center median and began to overturn. Investigators confirmed that as the BMW rolled multiple times, the driver was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Escape managed to escape the wreck without any reported injuries. Local authorities closed portions of US-301 for several hours to process the scene and clear the wreckage.

The Florida Highway Patrol has not yet released the names of those involved.
