Armed California Man Stopped In Attack At White House Correspondents’ Dinner

President Trump addressed reporters at the White House late Saturday night after he and other top leaders of the United States were evacuated from the annual White House Correspondents’ dinner following a violent shooting incident.

What was intended to be a celebration of the First Amendment turned into a high-stakes security operation when a gunman attempted to storm the venue, forcing an immediate lockdown of the nation’s highest-ranking officials.

The shooting suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, according to two law enforcement officials who spoke with The Associated Press.

The confrontation occurred at a security perimeter well outside the main ballroom. Trump stated that the California man was armed with multiple weapons and was moving at high speed toward the event before being intercepted by the Secret Service and Metropolitan Police.

Despite the sudden chaos, the President described the atmosphere inside the room as one of “tremendous love and coming together,” noting that the threat served as an unexpected moment of national unity among Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike.

“I saw a room that was just totally unified,” the President noted during the briefing. “It was a very beautiful thing to see… the fact that they just unified.”

According to the President, Allen approached a security checkpoint from approximately 50 yards away. Secret Service agents, some of whom were positioned at tables in disguise, reacted within seconds of the breach. The exchange of gunfire left one Secret Service officer injured.

Trump confirmed the officer was shot at close range with a powerful weapon, but he was protected by a high-quality bulletproof vest. The President personally spoke with the officer, reporting that he is in “great shape” and remains in high spirits.

Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI officials characterized the suspect as a “sick person” and a “lone wolf,” though a massive federal investigation is already underway to confirm whether Allen had any outside assistance.

Agents are currently executing search warrants at the suspect’s residence in Torrance to determine a motive. Multiple charges, including attempted assassination and various firearms violations, are expected to be filed imminently.

In his remarks, the President addressed the recurring nature of such threats, referencing past incidents in Butler, Pennsylvania, and Palm Beach, Florida.

He described the presidency as a “dangerous profession,” noting that impactful figures are often targeted. “I can’t be so concerned that you can’t function,” he told reporters. “I’m here to do a job… we have a great country, and with that come risks.”

The First Lady and Vice President J.D. Vance were also rushed to safety by security details as the building was locked down. While the President admitted he “fought like hell to stay” and finish the evening, he ultimately followed Secret Service protocol to evacuate while the scene was stabilized.

The White House Correspondents’ dinner was halted for the evening but is expected to be rescheduled within the next 30 days. The President promised a return to the stage, stating that the next event would be “bigger and better” to prove that the country will not be intimidated by acts of violence.

“We’re not going to let anybody take over our society,” the President said. “Justice will be served.”
