ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An early morning traffic stop assistance evolved into a deputy-involved shooting in Orange County Saturday, leaving a man in critical condition. The incident, which occurred around 1 a.m. near the intersection of Orlando Central Parkway and President’s Drive, is now under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).

According to a statement released by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were providing assistance with a traffic detail when a man unexpectedly fled on foot. As deputies pursued him, they saw that he was armed with a gun.

Deputies reportedly caught up to the individual, who was still in possession of the firearm, leading to two deputies discharging their service weapons and striking the man.

Following the shooting, deputies immediately provided first aid at the scene. The injured man was then transported to a local hospital, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

The FDLE has taken over the investigation into the shooting. Their findings will be presented to the State Attorney’s Office for a comprehensive review. Upon the completion of the FDLE’s investigation, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office will initiate its own internal inquiry into the incident.
