AUBURNDALE, Fla. – A shooting involving law enforcement officers has triggered a massive police response at a local commercial parking lot this morning.
The incident took place in the parking lot of the Spectrum facility located in Auburndale. Law enforcement personnel from both the Auburndale Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene immediately following the gunfire and have secured the surrounding area.
Officials confirmed that no police officers or sheriff’s deputies sustained injuries during the active incident.
Because the shooting involved law enforcement personnel discharging their firearms, outside investigators have taken over the scene to ensure an objective review of the events.
“The 10th Judicial Circuit Officer Involved Deadly Incident Task Force is investigating an officer-involved shooting in the Spectrum parking lot in Auburndale,” authorities stated in a release.
The specific events that led up to the shooting, the identity of the individual targeted by law enforcement, and their current medical condition have not yet been released by agency representatives.
Police operations remain highly visible at the property as forensics teams map out the scene and interview witnesses. The department plans to disclose more specific details about what occurred as the morning progresses.
According to the agency’s initial statement, “We will brief the media at the scene later this morning.”
