POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 42-year-old Auburndale woman was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon following a standoff with Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies who were attempting to serve an outstanding felony warrant.
Deputies arrived at a residence on Joey Drive around 4:27 p.m. on August 18, 2026, to arrest Julie Marie Enos on an active Polk County warrant for felony child abuse.
According to authorities, deputies surrounded the home and ordered Enos to step outside. Enos shouted back, “You’re trespassing,” before retreating inside and shutting the window blinds.
Law enforcement personnel made several attempts to negotiate a peaceful surrender, calling out to her repeatedly and placing multiple phone calls to her residence. During the interaction, Enos approached a window holding a kitchen knife, shouted at the personnel on scene, and made threatening stabbing motions toward them.
Deputies then forced open the front door to enter the home. As they stepped inside, Enos ran up the stairs and shoved a nightstand down the staircase in their direction. She barricaded herself inside the second-floor master bedroom, piling furniture against the door to block entry.
Following further unsuccessful attempts to coax Enos out, deputies deployed chemical agents through a bedroom window. Enos still refused to exit after several deployments.
Deputies eventually forced their way into the bedroom and took Enos into custody. She was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. No law enforcement officers sustained injuries during the incident.
In addition to the original warrant for child abuse, Enos faces three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, three counts of threatening a public servant, three counts of resisting an officer with violence, and four counts of resisting without violence.
