POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A fatal collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck on Wednesday morning, February 18, 2026, is currently under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred at approximately 7:47 a.m. at the intersection of Old Avon Park Road and Sangster Road, located southeast of Frostproof.

First responders arrived at the scene and attempted life-saving measures on the operator of a 2022 Yamaha motorcycle, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 2017 Dodge Ram 2500, remained on-site for the investigation and declined medical treatment.

A preliminary investigation by Traffic Homicide detectives indicates that the motorcycle was traveling on Old Avon Park Road when it passed a witness at a high rate of speed in a non-passing zone.

Deputies say while approaching a curve, the motorcycle crossed the center line into the path of the oncoming Dodge Ram. The vehicles collided, and the motorcycle came to a stop under the rear axle of the truck.

The roadway was closed for about three hours following the accident. While the investigation remains ongoing, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office stated that no criminal or civil charges are anticipated at this time.
