A New Orleans man known by the alias “Baby Nu” admitted in federal court today that he sent obscene material to an individual he believed was a 15-year-old girl.
Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Mark Brooks, 35, entered a guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Barry W. Ashe for the attempted transfer of obscene matter to a minor.
According to federal prosecutors, the investigation began earlier this year when Brooks initiated contact with an online profile named “Ava” on or about May 1, 2025. “Ava” was actually a covert FBI employee. Despite being explicitly told that “Ava” was only 15 years old, Brooks continued to engage in a sexually charged text correspondence.

Court documents detail that during these exchanges, Brooks sent multiple sexually explicit videos to the undercover agent. The footage allegedly included Brooks masturbating while at work and inside various rooms of a residence.
The digital interactions escalated on May 13, 2025, when Brooks proposed an in-person meeting. He suggested they meet at a restaurant near his home, with the stated intention of bringing “Ava” back to his residence for sexual acts. The undercover agent agreed to the plan.
Brooks was taken into custody shortly after as he walked from his residence toward the restaurant.

Following his guilty plea, Brooks faces a statutory maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. He may also be required to register as a sex offender.
Judge Ashe has scheduled sentencing for February 12, 2026.
