A Florida woman is facing felony charges after a dispute over housework with her teenage daughter allegedly turned violent the day before Thanksgiving.

Police say Jamika Jackson, 36, of Miami, got into an argument with her 16-year-old daughter regarding “cleaning a mess.” According to the arrest report, the verbal confrontation escalated quickly when Jackson slapped the teen across the mouth and threw her to the floor.

Investigators state that while the girl was on the ground, Jackson placed her in a chokehold from behind. The teen reportedly struggled to breathe, pleading with her mother to stop. A witness at the scene told officers that during the struggle, Jackson also bit the girl on the arm.

The 16-year-old suffered a cut inside her mouth, a scraped throat, and a puncture wound matching a bite mark on her left arm.

Following her arrest, police say Jackson admitted to the physical altercation. She reportedly confessed to slapping, throwing, and choking the girl because she was angry about the teen’s “bad attitude.”

Jackson has pleaded not guilty to child abuse charges. She is due back in court for an arraignment on January 23.
