Senator Ashley Moody received special recognition for her legislative support of Florida’s law enforcement community today, taking home the Friends of the Florida Police Chiefs Association (FPCA) Award. The presentation followed a speech by Moody to hundreds of law enforcement leaders gathered at the FPCA Annual Summer Conference in Orlando.
The award highlights Moody’s career-long focus on law enforcement, which includes creating, supporting, and sponsoring measures aimed at providing tools and resources to strengthen public safety.
“Florida is the most pro-law enforcement state in the nation because we never waver in our support for the men and women who selflessly serve and protect our communities. As the wife of a law enforcement officer, I’ll continue fighting in Washington to ensure our officers have the tools they need to keep Floridians safe,” Moody said during the event.
Since transitioning to her role as a U.S. Senator, Moody has introduced and supported several federal legislative measures. Her current legislative portfolio includes introducing the Halo Act, which aims to shield federal officers from threats and harassment while on duty, and introducing the HELPER Act, designed to make homeownership more accessible for law enforcement officers and other first responders.
Moody also backed the Graham Hoffman Act to enforce harsher federal and state prosecution for those who assault first responders, and sponsored the RIPPLE Act to expand the 287(g) program, which provides resources to state law enforcement regarding criminal illegal aliens.
Additionally, she co-sponsored the HALT Fentanyl Act—recently signed into law by President Trump—which permanently classifies fentanyl-related substances under Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act to aid in prosecuting traffickers. During Police Week earlier this year, Moody advanced six bills focused on public safety and law enforcement tools through the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Prior to her time in the Senate, Moody served as Florida’s Attorney General. In that role, she established the Back the Blue, Thin Line Tribute, and Sunshine Salute recognition programs. Her state-level work included collaborating with lawmakers to strengthen laws preventing violent offenders from committing new crimes, as well as launching initiatives that successfully recruited 1,900 new law enforcement officers to Florida from across the country.
Moody also previously served as a commissioner on the Presidential Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice during President Trump’s first administration.
