Banned Customer Charged With Attempted Murder After Stabbing At Pennsylvania Planet Fitness

A midday attack at a suburban gym has left a staff member fighting for his life and a Philadelphia man behind bars. Cheltenham Police and EMS rushed to the Planet Fitness at 1000 South Easton Road in Wyncote, Pennsylvania, at approximately 12:33 p.m. on Thursday, April 2nd, following reports that an employee had been stabbed.

At the scene, responders found a male victim with multiple stab wounds. The victim, identified as an employee of the gym, was immediately rushed to an area trauma center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

According to the preliminary investigation, the violence broke out during an altercation between the employee and the man, who had been previously banned from the business.

Officers searching the area quickly located a suspect a short distance away and took him into custody without further incident.

The suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Davier Massey of Philadelphia. Massey faces a litany of charges, including criminal attempt-murder of the first degree, aggravated assault, and possession of an instrument of crime. His charges also include terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, criminal mischief, harassment, and disorderly conduct.

Following his arrest, bail was denied. Massey was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility where he remains pending his next court appearance.

The Cheltenham Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.
