A Texas man wanted on a felony warrant surrendered to local authorities Sunday morning after barricading himself inside a Winter Haven bedroom, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched around 11 a.m. on Aug. 16 to a home on Avenue D NE following reports of a disturbance. Investigators determined the incident involved a dispute between a homeowner and a tenant, which had not turned criminal.
The situation changed when the tenant, identified as 30-year-old Vincent Kolodziej, refused to come out of his bedroom to speak with law enforcement. Deputies reported that Kolodziej locked the door and blocked the entrance with a mattress.
A background check revealed Kolodziej had an active arrest warrant out of Tarrant County, Texas, for assault on a law enforcement officer.
Kolodziej continued to refuse orders to leave the room. According to the on-scene sergeant, Kolodziej stated that he was “nervous and scared.” He ended the standoff and exited the room without incident once deputies told him a K9 unit was en route.
Deputies took Kolodziej into custody, charging him with resisting an officer without violence in addition to his out-of-state warrant. He was booked into the Polk County Jail to await extradition to Fort Worth, Texas.
