LEGO Education announced a significant overhaul of its classroom technology lineup on Monday, introducing a new hands-on Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) curriculum designed to replace isolated screen time with collaborative building.

The launch comes in direct response to a new global report, “Building the Future,” which highlights a disconnect in modern education. While 69 percent of teachers surveyed agree that AI literacy is critical for students’ futures, 40 percent report that their schools are unprepared to teach it responsibly. Furthermore, more than half of the 1,800 educators surveyed stated that current computer science resources leave students feeling “bored” or disconnected from the material.

Scheduled to begin shipping in April 2026, the new LEGO Education Computer Science & AI solution targets grades K-8. The system moves away from the traditional model of individual students staring at monitors.

“We have a vision for kids learning, building, and coding together—moving away from classrooms where kids work individually on computers with headphones on,” said Atish Gonsalves, Head of Product, Computer Science & AI at LEGO Education.

The new kits are designed for groups of four, encouraging students to collaborate using physical LEGO bricks alongside hardware and a digital “Coding Canvas.” The curriculum covers 30 inquiry-based lessons that range from screen-free activities to complex coding projects.

The company emphasized that safety and privacy were central to the product’s development, specifically regarding the integration of AI concepts for children as young as five. The platform requires no student logins, and all data is saved locally on the device rather than in the cloud.

“The future will be led by children who don’t just use technology — they understand it, question it, and ultimately build a better world with it,” said Andrew Sliwinski, Head of Product Experience. “AI presents incredible opportunities for learning, but it must be introduced with intention and care.”

This product launch signals a transition for the company’s portfolio. LEGO Education confirmed it will retire its SPIKE Portfolio, including the SPIKE Prime and SPIKE Essential sets, to make room for the new grade-specific kits (K-2, 3-5, and 6-8).

The new kits will start at $339.95, which the company breaks down to approximately $84.98 per student when utilized in the intended four-student groups. The associated digital Coding Canvas will be available via web browser or iOS app.
