Spanish-language media recently reported that men, women, and children reached the California-Mexico border wearing white T-shirts with President Joe Biden’s campaign logo on them, and saying “Please let us in.”
Yet, that’s not all some illegal immigrants are bringing.
Other reports suggest that COVID-19-positive immigrants are crossing the border and U.S. officials are powerless to stop them.
Biden has done everything possible, within the realm of executive orders, to overturn former President Donald Trump’s immigration policy, including defunding the border wall, ending the travel ban on countries designated as sponsors of terrorism, and increasing the number of refugees while axing the policy that required them to wait in Mexico until their claims were adjudicated.
The result has been predictable: a skyrocketing increase of immigrants either crossing illegally or claiming to be refugees. Even one Texas Democratic congressman, Rep. Vincente Gonzalez, has labeled Biden’s policy “catastrophic.”
This week, U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, another Democrat told reporters that more than 100 COVID-positive so-called asylum-seekers crossed the border and were released into Texas.
Although these people are supposed to have negative coronavirus tests before entering the country to await the processing of their claims, local media in Brownsville reported that they were “released into Texas because Mexico won’t take them back.”
Congressman Cuellar noted, “They tested some of the people who got put at the bus station in Brownsville and according to the rapid tests, about 108 tested positive. So basically that creates a situation that they are letting people who are positive get on buses and with the permission of (the Department of) Homeland Security they can go anywhere in the United States.”
Anywhere.
Meanwhile, Biden has directed Immigration and Customs Enforcement to halt deportations – although a federal judge has said otherwise.
In response on Thursday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, called the situation “unconscionable.” He also denounced the Biden administration for suggesting Texas ought to aid in “their illegal immigrant program.” “We will not aid a program that makes our country a magnet for illegal immigration,” Abbott said in a statement.
Even Cuellar said the Biden administration was responsible for testing immigrants.
Also on Thursday, U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, a Colorado Republican, tweeted, “Allowing COVID positive migrants to illegally cross the border is a huge slap in the face to Americans who have had their businesses closed and their lives upended. Under this regime, the worst thing you can be is a law-abiding American citizen.”
Biden even lost the “fact-checkers.” In a fact-check article of Boevert’s claim, Newsweek ruled it “half-true.”
The asylum-seekers must test negative to gain entry, Newsweek determined, but migrants picked up by CPB (the Border Patrol) might not have been tested prior to crossing the border illegally. Since CBP officials will not test migrants, that task is left mostly to NGOs (non-governmental organizations).”
“There currently is no system in place to track if migrants have been tested after they leave NGO shelters or CBP custody.”
