Now the Biden administration is coming for the appliance that helped make Florida great — air conditioners.

The U.S. Energy Department announced on Thursday that it was implementing new rules to make window air conditioners and portable air cleaners to make them more energy efficient.

The agency maintained this was needed to reduce carbon emissions and address climate change.

“Today’s announcement builds on the historic actions President Biden took last year to strengthen outdated energy efficiency standards, which will help save on people’s energy bills and reduce our nation’s carbon footprint,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said in a statement.

“DOE will continue to engage with our public and private sector partners to finalize additional proposals like today’s that lower household energy costs and deliver the safer, healthier communities that every American deserves.”

Granholm has made news of late by praising communist China’s green energy efforts — even as she admitted China is responsible for roughly one-third of the nation’s carbon emission and produces more of that than the U.S. and the European Union combined.

According to the Energy Department, Americans will save $150 in energy costs over the life of a window AC unit.

The department did not indicate how much costs may increase as manufacturers have to comply with tougher efficiency standards.

Which, according to The Epoch Times, was the industry’s chief complaint about the rule.

The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers commented on the rule,  saying that it was “too stringent and will have a negative, disproportionate impact on low-income households and historically marginalized communities.”

The organization encouraged the Biden administration to “reassess parts of its analysis with respect to proposed standards levels … and some of the assumptions upon which the analysis is based.”

The Times reported that the industry expected to spend $82 million to comply with Biden’s rule.

As The Free Press has reported, in recent weeks, Biden has also announced crackdowns on gas stoves and washing machines.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has criticized the feds for the rule on stoves, and Republican lawmakers are working on legislation to stop it from being implemented in Florida.
