Florida Turkey Shoot Canceled From Bidenflation

‘Bidenflation’ Small Florida Community Cancels Decades-Old Annual Thanksgiving Tradition

Florida Turkey Shoot Canceled From Bidenflation

Food, cars, gas, furniture – you name it, and it’s likely almost anything you buy, or hope to buy, is more costly as President Joe Biden’s inflationary policies have driven price increases to their largest spike in 30 years.

But in one small Florida town, “Bidenflation” has spoiled a longstanding holiday tradition – and hurt families in the process.

Residents in Seville, a town of about 700 people in Volusia County, announced recently that they are canceling their annual Thanksgiving turkey shoot.

Why? Because the birds cost too much.

According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, the Seville Village Improvement Association, the nonprofit group that organizes the event, usually buys 60 turkeys each year.

Participants then take part in a shotgun-shooting contest to win one of the birds.

The association then uses the proceeds from the entry fees to help maintain and improve the town’s community center.

But the shoot was canceled this year because the price of turkeys has skyrocketed.

Jana Register, a volunteer with the group, said organizers are accustomed to paying 49 cents to 69 cents a pound for a medium-sized turkey, usually around 10 or 11 pounds.

This year, the price has jumped to $1.19 a pound.

“When we looked at $1.19 a pound,’ Register told the News-Journal, “it really just cut into our profitability.”

The event has occurred annually since the 1950s, and the community was looking forward to this year’s shoot after COVID-19 forced its cancellation last year.

Dan Hiscock, an 84-year-old Seville resident, told the News-Journal, “Prices are going crazy, I’m scared of going to the grocery store these days. I don’t like it, but it’s the way it’s going to be.”

“It’s terrible,” added Pasco Cade, an 89-year-old Seville resident who has been a regular at the shoot since he was a teenager.

“But I am not surprised. Everything is going sky-high. And it doesn’t look like things are going to get better.”
