MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A Big Pine Key woman who was arrested Monday for drowning a puppy has been arrested again, this time for allegedly breaking into the Florida Keys SPCA shelter in Marathon to retrieve her confiscated dogs.

72-year-old Delaine Abee Lowry now faces charges of burglary and criminal mischief, in addition to the earlier animal cruelty charge.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the SPCA facility on Aviation Boulevard around 5:26 p.m. Wednesday after a report of a burglary. A door had been pried open, and security footage showed Lowry scaling a fence and illegally entering the property.

SPCA employees recognized Lowry and reported that she was attempting to retrieve the dogs that had been taken from her following her arrest for drowning a puppy the previous day.

Deputies located Lowry at her residence, still wearing the same clothes as seen in the security footage. She was taken into custody and is being held at the Monroe County Jail.

Correction: The original report stated the second arrest happened on Tuesday, which is now corrected to reflect the second arrest occurred on Wednesday.
