An Atlantic Beach neighborhood became a homicide scene Tuesday night after a local man was stabbed to death inside a residence, leading to the quick arrest of a 72-year-old suspect.
The incident unfolded just after 9 p.m. on July 7, when officers with the Atlantic Beach Police Department rushed to a home on Rose Avenue, located just off Mayport Road. Upon entering the house, police discovered 49-year-old Mickey Jo Guile lying wounded in a back bedroom. Emergency medical personnel rushed Guile to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Following the initial response, Homicide and Crime Scene Unit detectives took over the active investigation, working alongside Atlantic Beach officers and the State Attorney’s Office.
By analyzing the scene and gathering evidence, investigators identified Stephen Perez-Guerra as the primary suspect in the killing.
Detectives located and arrested Perez-Guerra on Wednesday, July 8. He was booked on a charge of Second-Degree Murder and remains held behind bars at the Duval County jail.
In a statement following the arrest, law enforcement officials noted, “Our thoughts are with Guile’s family and friends.”
