Louisiana Senator John Kennedy (R) delivered a severe condemnation of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro during an interview on Fox News’ The Story, bluntly labeling the leader a “terrorist himself” with “blood stains under his fingernails.”
The Senator’s strong language came as part of a discussion that included U.S. operations targeting narco-terrorists and a recent Washington Post report about Maduro seeking military aid from foreign adversaries. Kennedy asserted that Maduro is not in power due to popular support, but rather a “cartel full of narco-terrorists of his own,” further characterizing him as “scared” of potential attack.
The Republican Senator vigorously defends U.S. actions against “narco-terrorists.”
He equated them to “Jihadis” in Africa, but argued that the narco-terrorists operating in the Western Hemisphere are even more dangerous due to their role in “killing more Americans” with drugs. Kennedy supported the administration’s actions, stating he appreciates “the fact that Trump is killing them first.”
While acknowledging concerns about due process raised by some colleagues, Kennedy said he was satisfied by a briefing from Secretary of State Rubio, who he said explained why the operations were legal and why the targets were known narco-terrorists.
Kennedy maintained that Maduro is equally culpable, stating that he is “just as much at fault as some of these people driving the boats with the drugs in them.”
