ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – UPDATED REPORT HERE: St. Petersburg Man Dies After Truck Crashes Through Dead End And Into Water

A startling scene unfolded in St. Petersburg Saturday morning after a passerby spotted a pickup truck resting upside down in the water.

Police say the call came in just before 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of 62nd Avenue North and Bayou Grande Boulevard. When St. Pete Fire Rescue crews arrived at the water’s edge, they confirmed the worst: the body of an adult man was discovered inside the cab.

The vehicle was located just a few feet from the shore, but investigators are still working to piece together how it ended up there. Preliminary checks show the truck had not been reported stolen.

Detectives have taken over the scene to determine the timeline of events. Officials have not yet released the man’s identity or further details regarding the cause of the crash.

This is a developing story.
