PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – Newly released bodycam footage sheds light on a Thanksgiving Day shooting in Pasco County where a deputy shot a man who had been wielding a sword and threatening residents.

The incident unfolded in Shady Hills after the Pasco Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports of a man swinging a sword near children. Deputies located the individual inside his home and made verbal contact. However, the situation escalated when the man emerged from the residence carrying a firearm.

The released footage captures the tense moments leading up to the shooting. Deputies can be heard repeatedly ordering the man to drop the weapon, but he fails to comply. The video then shows the deputy firing their weapon, striking the individual.

Deputies immediately rendered medical aid, and the man was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both the sword and the firearm were recovered at the scene.

Following standard protocol, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) will conduct an independent investigation into the deputy-involved shooting. The deputy who fired the shots has been placed on paid administrative leave, as is customary in such cases.

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office assures the public that there is no ongoing safety threat. The investigation remains active, and further details will be released as they become available.
