POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Tuesday night traffic stop in Polk County ended with two arrests, disrupting birthday plans for the driver and landing a wanted fugitive back behind bars.

Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a 2015 Chevy Malibu around 9:52 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. 92 and Old Dixie Highway in Auburndale. What began as a routine check quickly escalated when deputies identified the vehicle’s occupants.

The driver, 23-year-old Christine Sheldon of Lakeland, was reportedly cooperative during the investigation. However, the stop coincided with her birthday, which she ultimately spent being processed at the Sheriff’s Processing Center.

Authorities say Sheldon was driving with a suspended or revoked license for the second time. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered methamphetamine and glass pipes. She now faces charges for the license violation, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The situation proved more complicated regarding the passenger, identified as 35-year-old Brock Dalton Hood of Auburndale. Unlike the driver, deputies noted that Hood was uncooperative during the encounter. A check of his record revealed an outstanding felony warrant for trafficking in amphetamine, possession of alprazolam, and aggravated stalking.

In addition to the narcotics and paraphernalia found in the car, deputies discovered shotgun ammunition.

Hood was booked on his existing warrant and slapped with fresh charges, including possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

Both Sheldon and Hood remain in custody at the Polk County Sheriff’s Processing Center.
