TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Police Department is currently investigating a bomb threat reported this afternoon in the 200 block of N. Franklin Street, specifically targeting the 1st Horizon Bank.
While the investigation remains active, authorities state there is no immediate evidence to suggest a direct threat to public safety.
Tampa Police Officers responded to the scene at approximately 2:20 p.m. after an anonymous caller reported an explosive device located outside the bank. In an abundance of caution, members of the Tampa Police Bomb Unit were also dispatched to assist with the thorough search and investigation of the area.

Currently, officers continue to work on site, conducting interviews and examining the surroundings. Despite the serious nature of the initial report, police have not found any evidence that corroborates the threat or indicates an active danger to the public.
“Making threats of explosives or any other dangerous device is a serious criminal offense,” stated Chief Lee Bercaw. “These types of calls are not only illegal, but also create disruption, waste valuable public resources, and cause unnecessary concern for our community. Those found responsible for making such threats will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

The Tampa Police Department emphasizes that this remains an active investigation and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The public is advised to avoid the immediate area as officers continue their work, though typical downtown activity appears largely unaffected outside the immediate perimeter of the investigation.
