FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino announced that the agency is actively reviewing and dedicating additional resources to three high-profile “cases of potential public corruption” that he stated went unsolved by the previous administration.
The announcement via X also provided updates on internal FBI reforms and communication strategies.
The specific cases highlighted for renewed investigative focus include the January 5, 2021, DC pipe bombing investigation, the discovery of cocaine at the White House (referred to as the “prior administration’s White House”), and the leak of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision.

“Shortly after swearing in, the Director and I evaluated a number of cases of potential public corruption that, understandably, have garnered public interest,” Bongino stated. “We made the decision to either re-open, or push additional resources and investigative attention, to these cases.” He confirmed that he receives weekly briefings on these investigations and that progress is being made. The public was encouraged to contact the FBI with any relevant investigative tips.
Bongino, who assumed the role of Deputy Director in March 2025 under FBI Director Kash Patel, also touched upon ongoing efforts to implement reform within the Bureau. “The Director and I will have most of our incoming reform teams in place by next week,” he noted, acknowledging that the hiring process takes time but is nearing completion. “This will help us both in doubling down on our reform agenda.”
Addressing the FBI leadership’s media engagement, Bongino explained their decision to limit their media footprint.
“We decided early on to limit our media footprint overall in order to keep the attention on the work being done,” he said, acknowledging both the positive and negative aspects of this approach.
He indicated that communication via written updates on social media aims to fill information gaps. Following feedback from a recent joint media interview, Bongino also promised the release of more information to clarify answers provided during that session.
The statement concluded with gratitude for public support and a patriotic sentiment: “God bless America and all those who defend Her.”
The FBI’s renewed attention to these politically sensitive cases signals a potential shift in investigative priorities under its new leadership. The DC pipe bomb investigation has remained a significant unsolved case, with authorities continuing to seek public assistance in identifying a suspect. The discovery of cocaine in the White House and the unprecedented leak of a Supreme Court draft opinion also previously generated considerable public and political discussion.
